All of Ventura, under law modeled on California's. Florence and Hayward each have their own police; the highway patrol and the SBI cover both.

02The agencies

Four agencies police Ventura. We act against each of them, and the law binds all four the same way.

Florence City Police Department
The city of Florence.
Most stops in Florence are FCPD. We file complaints with the department and claims against it in court.
02HCSO
Hayward County Sheriff's Office
Hayward, including the county jail.
Deputies patrol Hayward and run the jail. We act for clients stopped, arrested or held by the Sheriff's Office.
03VHP
Ventura Highway Patrol
All of Ventura. State troopers with full jurisdiction.
Troopers can stop you anywhere in the state, in Florence or Hayward. The stop still needs lawful grounds.
04SBI
SBI
All of Ventura. The state's investigative bureau.
The SBI handles major investigations, warrants and raids. Its cases are the most serious, and so is the scrutiny we give them.

03The law and the ground

California law

Ventura's law is modeled on California's. We work from it: the statutes, the procedure and the limits it puts on every agency in the state.

West of the highway. The city's civic center, the bank and the shops along Florence Boulevard.

East of the highway, around Hawthorne. The county's law enforcement, its hospital and its fire station.
